At ICE Society, we remove financial barriers so every child can play hockey, connecting families to the game and the supportive community that surrounds it.

Welcome to Inspiring Children to Empowerment (ICE) Society
based in Victoria BC
Every kid deserves the chance to lace up, play, and belong. At ICE Society, we believe cost or difficult life circumstances should never keep a young person off the ice or on the sidelines. We step in to help families who need support by covering registration fees, essential equipment, and related sports costs.
Hockey is more than just a game for the player—it’s a place where whole families find connection, friendship, and a supportive community. As a grassroots charity powered entirely by community donations, our initial focus is removing financial barriers so children can play and their families can be part of that rink-side community. As we grow, our vision is to expand into life-skills training, mentorship, and broader youth initiatives.
Whether your family needs a helping hand to get into the game or you are looking to support a young player and their family, welcome to our team.
Every child deserves a team, and every family deserves a community. Your support allows ICE Society to provide direct relief for sports registration and essential gear, ensuring no kid is left on the sidelines.

Remembering Coach Phil Downie
Phil Downie was a cornerstone of the Vancouver Island hockey community—a coach, mentor, role model, and friend whose passion for the game shaped the lives of countless young athletes.
To Phil, hockey was never just about what happened between the whistles. He believed in the rink as a place where players could find their confidence, learn lifelong character, and feel genuinely supported. Phil was known for giving selflessly of his time and heart: showing up early, staying late, making sure a player without a ride got to practice, and ensuring every kid had a chance to experience the camaraderie of tournaments and team life. He brought integrity, dedication, and genuine inclusion to every bench he stood behind.
Through the Phil Downie Memorial Fund, we carry forward his legacy of generosity and mentorship—making sure cost is never a barrier to playing the game Phil loved, and continuing his work of lifting up players, families, and community coaches.
